Gutter and downspout cleaning in Sonora, CA
We scoop every gutter on the house out by hand, flush every downspout with a hose until water runs out the bottom, and clear the ones that are packed. Everything we pull out is bagged and hauled away. We do it for homes, cabins and rentals in Sonora and around Tuolumne County, under oaks, pines or both.
You get one price for the whole house after a free look, usually the same day you call or the next. Most homes here need a cleaning twice a year; our guide to when to clean gutters in Sonora shows the months.

Who needs gutter and downspout cleaning?
You do if rain spills over the gutter edge in a storm, a downspout has stopped draining, or fire season is coming and the gutters are full of dry needles. We also clean for owners who cannot or should not get up there themselves.
-
Water over the edge in a storm
A full gutter sends rain over its front edge and down beside your walls, where it soaks the ground along the foundation.
-
A downspout that stays dry
If little or no water comes out the bottom in a rain, the downspout is plugged and the gutter above it backs up.
-
Getting ready for fire season
CAL FIRE's home hardening advice: “Keep gutters free from plant debris to prevent ember ignition.” Dry needles in a gutter sit right at the roof edge.
-
Cabin owners and landlords
If you live out of the area or the house is between tenants, we clean it and tell you what we saw up there: leaks, sagging runs, loose hangers or soft boards.
-
Anyone who should stay off the ladder
The older you are, the more a fall costs you. If you are over 60, we would rather you did not climb at all.
We asked for a quote for roof and gutter cleaning. Levi came out the next day, provided a reasonable quote, and did the job immediately. We liked the can-do attitude and pleasant, open demeanor. Would be happy to deal with Levi again.

What does gutter and downspout cleaning include?
Every run of gutter on the house is emptied by hand and every downspout is flushed, and cleared when it is packed. We look at the corners, seams and outlets while we are up there, haul the debris away and tell you what we found before we leave.
| Part of the job | What we do |
|---|---|
| Gutters | Every run scooped out by hand and bagged, end to end |
| Downspouts | Flushed with a hose until water runs out the bottom, and cleared when they are packed |
| Corners, seams and outlets | Checked while we are up there |
| Gutters with guards | Cleaned too, not skipped |
| Debris | Bagged and hauled away, nothing left in your yard |
| What we saw | Any leak, sagging run, loose hanger or soft board, pointed out before we leave |
Needles on the roof wash into a clean gutter with the next rain, so when the roof needs it we clear that on the same visit with roof needle and debris removal.
How a gutter cleaning visit goes
One call, one free look, one price, then the work. Here is the order.
-
You call or send the form
Somebody picks up. Or send the form and we call back, usually within the hour.
-
We look and give you one price
The estimate is free, usually the same day or the next. You get one price for the whole house before anyone climbs.
-
Roof, gutters, then downspouts
Needles come off the roof first when it needs it, then every gutter is scooped by hand and every downspout flushed until it drains.
-
We haul it away and show you
Every bag leaves with us. We point out any leak, sag or soft board we found while we were up there.
What does a clogged downspout tell you?
When a gutter spills near its downspout first, the downspout or the elbow at its bottom is usually plugged. Wet needles and leaves wash toward the opening, pack down and stop the water, so it backs up along the gutter and over the edge. Here is how to check yours.
Signs a downspout is plugged
- Water spills over the gutter near the downspout before anywhere else
- Little or no water comes out the bottom during a rain
- A hose run into the top does not come out the bottom
- Needles and leaves are packed at the top opening or the bottom elbow
NC State Extension's advice for every house: “Downspouts and downspout elbows should be clear of debris.” Our guide to why gutters overflow in the rain reads each spot where water spills and what it means.

How much does gutter and downspout cleaning cost?
It depends on the house, so we look first and give you one price for the whole house, free, before any work starts. We do not post a price list, because the same cleaning can be a short job on one house and a long one on the next. These are the things that move it.
| What we look at | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Height | A second story means a taller ladder and more care at every move |
| Roof pitch | Steep and metal roofs take more care and more time |
| Length of gutter | More feet of gutter and more corners mean more to scoop |
| How packed it is | Loose leaves come out fast; packed needles, mud or plants growing take longer |
| Downspouts | A draining downspout only needs a flush; a packed one has to be cleared |
| Gutter guards | Guards have to be worked around or lifted to clean the gutter under them |
If the roof needs clearing too, it goes into the same price. The estimate costs nothing, and the price we give you is the price for the whole house.
Get a free estimateHow often should gutters be cleaned here?
Twice a year for most homes around Sonora: late November, after the oaks drop their leaves, and late April or May, before fire season. Rarely more, and only when a hard storm season fills them again. It depends on the trees over your roof and the storms.
Oaks around Sonora drop most of their leaves in November and December, and ponderosa pines shed needles from late September into January. Our gutter calendar for the foothills lays out rain, leaf fall and needle fall month by month. On the free estimate we tell you how often we would clean yours.
What if water still spills after we clean?
We flush every downspout before we leave, so we see the water run through. If a clean gutter still spills, the gutter itself is usually the cause, and we tell you what we saw.
- A sagging run that holds water: we do not rehang gutters
- A gutter sloped the wrong way: we do not re-slope them
- Too few downspouts for the roof: we do not add them
- A blocked pipe underground: we do not clear buried drain lines
None of those are jobs we do, so we say so and tell you who can. The same goes for a leaking seam or corner: that is work for a licensed gutter contractor. Gutters with guards on them we do clean, with gutter guard cleaning.

Gutter and downspout cleaning questions
The questions people ask us about the cleaning itself. Something else on your mind? Call and ask.
Call (209) 213-4295How do I know if my gutters need cleaning?
Look for water pouring over the edge in a storm, needles hanging over the gutter lip, plants or grass growing in it, or a downspout that stays dry in the rain. Any one of those means the gutter is full or plugged and is worth a look before the wettest months.
Do you clean gutters on two-story houses and steep roofs?
Yes. Height, a steep pitch and a metal roof all take more care, so they cost more, and you hear the price before anyone climbs. It is the same work we tell homeowners to leave to a crew rather than do from their own ladder.
Will you tell me if something is wrong with my gutters?
Yes. While we are up there we look at the corners, seams, hangers and the board behind the gutter, and before we leave we tell you about any leak, sag or soft board we found. For a leak or a sag we tell you to call a licensed gutter contractor, since we do not do repairs.
Do you clear underground downspout drains?
No. We clear the downspout itself. If it feeds a pipe that runs underground and that pipe is blocked, that is drainage work, so we tell you what we found and point you to someone who does it.
How soon can you come out?
We call back usually within the hour, and the free estimate is usually the same day you call or the next. We set the cleaning day with you when we give you the price.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, from 8 AM to 4 PM. On weekdays we work from 7 AM to 6 PM, and we are closed on Sunday. Call during those hours and somebody picks up, or send the form any time and we call you back.
